Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks

Edward Lancelot Stevenson was one of four brothers who served during WW1. Only one survived. They were the sons of John Canning and Jane Alice Stevenson, of Bathurst, New South Wales.

Edward enlisted during August 1914, one of the first Australians to join up, and he was an original of C Company 9th Battalion, one of the first units ashore at the Anzac Landing. He was mortally on that first day, a gunshot wound to the head. He was evacuated to Egypt by hospital ship and died fifteen days later in Cairo.
