Son of John Finsen Simonsen and Caroline Simonsen nee Sorsdhal of Crofton Street, Bundaberg, QLD. Brother of Charles Reginald Simonsen who returned to Australia in 1920 having served with the 15th Battalion and Hans  Conrad Gustave Simonsen who returned to Australa  on the 10 April 1919 having served with the 52nd Battalion.
