Sgt Rupert John Clarence GRAHAM, 5077
3rd Battalion

Born in Rupanyup, Victoria in about 1890, to Hebe Mary (nee Sweetman) and Jacob Graham, the 25 year old grocer enlisted into the Light Horse Brigade Train 3 on the 18 October 1914. He saw service in Egypt and France, where he was wounded in action at Fromelles in July of 1916. Because of this, his leg was amputated. After a stint at various hospitals in England, he was sent back to France in September of 1918, serving at various schools in the field. He returned to Australia in March of 1919.

He died at Caulfield Repatriation Hospital on the 2 December 1946 aged 56 years old. He was cremated and his ashes interred at Springvale Botanical Cemetery, Pittosporum, Garden F1, Bed 14, Rose 49.

His obituary reads: GRAHAM — On December 2. at Repatriation Hospital. Caulfield. Rupert John Clarence. dearly loved son of the late J. and Hebe Graham, and loved brother of Hebe. Hazel and Vere. aged 56 years. Late 59th Btn. 1st A.I.F. At rest.

GRAHAM. — On December 2. at Caulfield Repatriation Hospital. Rupert J. C. (late 1st A.I.F.) for 22 years a highly esteemed member of the staff of W. T. Henley's Telegraph Works Co. Ltd.
