Frank Simmie Sellwood 1895-1976. Military Service WWI and WWII. His is David Sellwood’s paternal grandfather. Frank was born St Germains, Victoria and died in Kyabram, Victoria.
Frank aged 21 years, enlisted in the AIF in October 1916 and served as a gunner with the 2th Battery, 7th FAB, 3rd Division. He initially saw action at Ypres front, Belgium for six months before being rushed down, with thousands of other Australians to the Somme, France in March 1918 to help stop the German offensive there. He was hospitalised after being gassed on the 31st August 1918, and discharged from the army in 1919.
He re-enlisted for WW2 in November 1941, and served at the 1st Australian Ordinance Park at Bandiana, Victoria. He was discharged from the army in March 1947 (Australian War Memorial: Service number: 33283; Rank: Gunner; Unit: 7th Australian Field Artillery Brigade; Conflict/Operation: First World War, 1914-1918; Fate: Returned to Australia).
