Private Barbara Eggington (Service Nos:WFX40021/WF53456) enlisted in the Australian Army Medical Women's Service (AAWMS) on 15 April 1943 and was attached to 118 Australian General Hospital. Private Eggington transferred to the AIF on 16 June 1943 and embarked from Sydney NSW  on 29 August 1945 to Jacquinot Bay on board the Tarooma, and served in New Britain until 19 May 1946. 'The moment we left Sydney we were in an operational area as we travelled under wartime conditions with naval gunners always on the lookout for submarines which were still in the area.... we would have got to Wewak about the 2nd and as you know they were still shelling the beach (National Archives Australia). Private Eggington returned to Sydney per the Marunda, embarking at Rabaul on 13 May 1946 and was Discharged on 2 July 1946.

Born in Yorkshire, England in 1921 Barbara was the eldest of three children of Arthur Eggington (b1890 in London, England) and Florence Wood (b1895 in Lancashire, England). Arthur (a Clerk) and Florence (a Towel Weaver) married in 1918 in Yorkshire, England - Arthur had served with the Gordon Highlanders in WWI. Arthur and Florence emigrated with their children in 1924, arriving in Fremantle WA on board the Esperance Bay and settled in the Manjimup region in WA. Arthur was a Timber Worker and Labourer and served with the ACMF in WWII (Private, Service No:W85710).

In 1948 in Manjimup WA, Barbara married Robert Anthony Crisp (b1922 in Bacchus Marsh, Victoria) - Robert had also served in WWII (Corporal; Service No:VX66053). Barbara and Robert settled in Scarborough, Perth WA where Robert worked as a Carpenter. Barbara died in 2004 and Robert in 2010.
