Son of Sydney Milton Bawden and Dorrothy Bawden nee Bails of Tumby Bay, SA. Brother of Sylvia Dorothy Bawden, Frederick Lewis Bawden who returned to Australia on 8 August 1918 having served with the 48th Battalion, Gladys Doris Bawden, Wilfred Robert Bawden, Peta Eugene Bawden, Edna Pauline Bawden and Sydney Lionel Bawden

Commenced return to Australia on 4 March 1919 on board HT Port Sydney disembarking on the 13 April 1919

On 16 August 1920 Milton married Gwendoline Mary Cock in the Holy Trinity Church, Adelaide, SA

On 20 July 1929 Milton married Hazel Mary Moss in the Methodist Parsonage, Rose Park, SA. His marital status at the time of marriage was given as Widower
