Apprenticed to Read & Gray of Dunedin, Scotland for five years

Between 1 April 1919 to 5 July 1919 he under too an training course in Fitting at the Naval Dockyard, Chatham, England

Commenced return to Australia on 22 August 1919 aboard HT Anchises disembarking on 13 October 1919
