We Remember Acting Sergeant Ralph Jones
Today we pause to remember the life and service of 5498 Acting Sergeant Ralph Jones, who died of wounds on the 12th of April 1917 whilst serving in France.
Originally from Golden Square, Bendigo, Victoria, Ralph enlisted on 29 July 1915, possibly serving at a Depot before embarking aboard HMAT Euripides on 4 April 1916. On 1 January 1917 Jones was officially promoted to Corporal (Cpl). He was wounded at the First Battle at Bullecourt in France on 11 April 1917 and taken prisoner by the Germans. Cpl Jones died the next day, on 12 April 1917, as a prisoner of war (POW) at Rumaucourt, France.
From father: Athlete, good rifle shot. Winner of over twenty medals for shooting, and at High School sports and cadet competitions. (Father) Joined the Bank of New South Wales, Melbourne branch, 1 June 1915.

RALPH JONES was born on 4th June, 1896, a t Golden Square, Bendigo, Victoria, the son of Mr. Ralph Jones and Mrs. C. E. Jones. He was educated at the High School, Bendigo, and joined the Bank at Melbourne on 1st June, 1915.
Enlisting on 16th July, 1915, as a private in the 14th Battalion of the A.I.F., Ralph Jones served in Egypt and France, and was promoted to corporal. He was wounded in action at the Battle of Bullecourt, taken prisoner, and died on 12th April, 1917.
