Biography contributed by Evan Evans

From Gallipoli, 1915

Lieut. Ernest 'Ernie' Harold Mack #66,
8th (Victoria) Light Horse.

He would be slightly wounded - concussion- on the 7th. It was he said "a marvellous escape" as a black cricket ball bomb exploded close to his leg, "the concussion was so great that it turned me completely over and the only thing I had to show for it was a few ragged tears in my uniform."

Dysentery would get him, like so many others and he ended up convalescing in England. When he rejoined his unit in March 1916, they were based in Egypt, part of the newly formed Anzac Mounted Division.

He was mortally wounded on 23rd December 1916 during the Battle of Magdhaba, on the Sinai peninsula, Egypt. Admitted to the New Zealand Mounted Brigade Field Ambulance with GSW's to the thigh, he succumbed to his wounds later that day. He was 29.
Today, he is commemorated at Kantara War Memorial Cemetery in Egypt
