Biography

"...2791 Private Arthur George Clarke, 9th (later 49th), Battalion of South Brisbane, Qld. Son of Arthur George and L. Clarke, of Gatton, Qld, A butcher prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Ayrshire (A33) on 1 September 1915. He was killed in action on 3 September 1916 near Pozieres, France, aged 28. He has no known grave and is remembered with honour on the Villers Bretonneux Memorial, France." - SOURCE (www.awm.gov.au)
