Private Daniel Gibson McLaren (Service No:3058) enlisted in the AIF on 1 November 1915, and was attached to 47th Battalion 7th Reinforcement on 27 October 1916 when he embarked with his Unit from Brisbane for Plymouth on board HMAT A74 Marathon. Private McLaren served on the Western Front, and on 19 June 1919 was attached to 46th Infantry Battalion when he embarked from England for Brisbane on board HT Militiades, for Discharge on 1 September 1919. Younger brother William also served in WWI, and Thomas (a PoW) served in WWII.
Born in Brisbane, QLD in 1895, Daniel was second of nine children of Daniel McLaren Snr (b1857 in Ipswich, QLD) and Elizabeth Margaret Fullerton (b1867 in Ipswich, QLD). Daniel Snr and Elizabeth married in 1887 in Brisbane, where they settled and raised their family and Daniel Snr worked as a Labourer and from 1920 for QLD Rail as a Shedman and Driver.
Daniel worked in Brisbane as a Labourer before enlisting in the AIF, returning after Discharge. In 1924 he married his first wife Henrietta Catherine Florence Thomas (b1903 in Brisbane, QLD). They settled in Brisbane, where they raised their family and Daniel was a Labourer until their divorce in the 1930s. In the mid 1950s Daniel re married to Mary Elizabeth Rose Nunn (nee Mant; b1908 in Brisbane, QLD). Daniel and Mary settled in Brisbane (Coopers Plains), where Daniel died in 1974. Mary died in 1987.
