Edward aka James Hyland was the son of James Prescott.
 
In 1897 he enlisted in the Royal Navy [ADM 188/456/284839] using the name James Hyland.
 
Edward married Margaret James at St.James' R.C. Church, Bootle on November 15th 1899. He gave his address as 87 Chestnut Grove, Bootle whilst his wife's home was at 23 Bangor Street, Bootle.
 
He and his wife had four children; Ellen (b 5th February 1902), Elizabeth (b 4th January 1904) who were both born at 14 Denbigh Street, Bootle, and Edward Joseph and James, born in London in 1906 and 1907.
 
By 1911 Edward and his wife had separated and Edward was living in Australia.
 
His wife and three surviving children were living with Margaret Prescott's widowed father, Thomas James, at 40 Seaforth Street, Bootle in 1911.
 
His daughter, Ellen, married William James Monaghan at St.Winifred's R.C. Church, Bootle in 1921.
 
His son, Edward Joseph, married Ellen Balmforth at St.James' R.C. Church, Bootle in 1929
 
His son, James, married Ann Brennan at St.Winifred's R.C. Church, Bootle in 1929.
 
All three of his children gave their address as 2 Church View, Bootle, when they married.

He is remembered on the Merseyside Roll of Honour.
