Biography contributed by Faithe Jones

Son of Mrs. J. MAYO of Queanbeyan, NSW

' A hero, laid beneath the sod With honor, has returned to God."
Sergt. E. F. Mayo, who was killed in action in France on April 11th was the youngest son of Mrs. John Mayo of this town and celebrated his 29th birthday a few days before his  death. The deceased soldier served through Gallipoli campaign, where he was wounded and was sent into hospital at Cairo. On his discharge from the hospital, he went to France, where he paid the supreme price, serving his King and country.

THE LATE SERGT. E. F. MAYO.
The following is an extract from a letter received by Mrs. Dudley from her nephew, Lieut. G. Nugent of the 13th Battalion:-"Sam Mayo as they called him (Sergeant) was killed the other day. If his mother has been officially notified I would like her to know from me that he died doing his job as a soldier should. He seems to have been very much liked among those who knew him, and all the lads speak very well of him, and are very sorry that they have lost him. They speak in a manner that shows they are talking of one who was a good friend and comrade. Give his mother and people my sympathy, and telI them that I am very sorry to know that our Battalion has lost such a good fellow.'
