Add my storyBiography contributed by Kathleen Emms
Arthur (Artie) was the second child and second son of Alfred James and Anna Sophia Dorethea (BRUS) WILSON who was born at Sandy Creek. His family had moved to Morgan at the time of his enlistment and the Morgan community assembled in the local Institute Hall, Saturday, 7th September, 1918 to farewell him.
Arthur boarded the HMAT Boonah at Port Adelaide, 22nd October, 1918. The Boonah was the last troopship to leave Australia in WW1.
Arriving at Durban, South Africa 3 days after Armistice, the ship made arrangements to return home. What unfolded thereafter became known as the "Boonah Crisis" when a number of the crew and soldiers succumbed to the Spanish flu. Quarantined at Fremantle where the sickest 300 disembarked, the ship finally proceeded to Port Adelaide where the remainder were quarantined at the Torrens Island Quarantine Station.
After the war, Arthur worked in the Riverland of South Australia and Mildura, Victoria. He died at Mildura, 1953.
