Frederick Brown was the son of John, a baker and Elizabeth Baker.

His father, John was born in 1865 in Ilkeston, his mother,  Elizabeth was born in 1868  in Sneinton. They were married in 1888 and  had 4 children all of whom were born in Sneinton.They were :

John b 1891, Frederick b 1893, Winifred Mary b 1899 and Wilfred Henry b 1908. In the 1911 census, his parents were living at separate addresses in Sneinton. His father is living at 26 Windmill Lane - 46 years of age and a baker, he is living with his sons John 20 years a law clerk and Frederick 17 years a printer’s assistant. Also at the address is a Mary Jane Hall 31 years, a housekeeper, meanwhile his mother Elizabeth is living at 13 Castle Street, Sneinton; she is shown as 43 years and a hosiery worker. She is living with two of her children, Winifred Mary 12 years and Wilfred Henry 3 years.

Private Frederick Brown, enlisted on 1st April 1915, in Sydney, Australia giving his occupation as that of labourer. He served with the 20th Battalion Australian Infantry, A.I.F.

 

In memoriam published 18th October 1915 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “BROWN. – Died of wounds, September 10th, 1915, on hospital ship, Private Frederick Brown, age 22, of the Australian Contingent, beloved son of John Brown, of 26, Windmill Lane, Sneinton. Oh for the touch of a vanished hand, and the sound of a voice that is still. – From his sorrowing father, brother and sister [illegible], Winnie.”

He is remembered on the Nottingham (Sneinton) - St Stephen's Church War Memorial.
