Son of George Wyatt, 15 Oaklands Grove, Shepherd's Bush, London, England
Private Frank Wyatt was killed in action in France on 11th August last. He was a resident of Forbes for four or five years, and made great many friends. He was a member (violin) of Acret's orchestra, and resided with Mr J. Jeffries, across the river towards Wowingragong. Private Wyatt enlisted at Townsville, but with other Queensland troops sailed from Melbourne on 21st November, 1917, being then an Acting Lance-Corporal. While at the front he was a Lewis gunner.
The following verse is from the pen of Private Frank Wyatt, who was formerly school teacher at Eulimore, in the Eugowra district. Private Wyatt was killed in action in France on August 11.
SUMMER IN FLANDERS.
Summer comes to Flanders now.
Sunny days and scented air.
Happy birds on bush and bough,
Sing in rapture free from care.
But to us these many years,
Summer comes with blood and tears.
Winding lanes and hedges tall.
Meadows rich with flowers anod.
Gentle rains refreshing all -
Grazing beast and swelling pod.
But the trenches grim and long,
Thunder forth their murder song.
Sunsets pass in fiery dress.
Dawns show cool in virgin white.
Beauty seeks her Truth to press,
Firmly on our blinded sight.
But the stars all whisper low,
" See the crosses - how they grow !"
