The Maitland Daily Mercury reported on December 8, 1921 that after a long illness, Mr. Arthur H. Styman, of West Maitland, died in the Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney, at 10 o'clock last evening.
Since his return from active service in December 1916, he has not been in good health, having been under medical treatment practically all the time, and nearly four months ago he entered hospital in Sydney.
He sailed from Australia in the early part of 1915 with the fifth reinforcements to the 13th Battalion, and after serving on Gallipoli for several months was invalided to England, subsequently returning to Australia.
For many years prior to the outbreak of war he took a keen interest in military matters, for at the age of 16 he joined the old 4th Infantry Regiment, and while in that he won a number of rifie shooting competitions. He served for a tome as a volunteer in the West Maitland Fire Brigade, and with the bellringers of St. Paul's Church.
With friendly society matters he was also actively as sociated, being a P.G. of the Protestant Alliance Friendly Society, and at one time secretary of the Loyal Orange Lodge. He was a member of the Central Bowling Club.
The late Mr. Styman, who was 35 years of age was employed by Messrs. Pender Bros, for 11 years, and worked in Armidale tor a while. He had a large number of acquaintances, amongst whom he was most popular, and news of his death will be received with general regret. Much sympathy will be expressed with the other members of the family for it is only six months since their mother died, and their father passed away not long before.
