Biography contributed by Faithe Jones

Son of Matthew and Susan YAXLEY

Husband of Mrs. E. YAXLEY, Spreyton, Tas.

Wedding Bells.
A very pretty wedding took place on Thursday at the residence of Mr. James Hancock, Don, when Miss Eleanor Hancock, youngest daughter of the late Mr. James Hancock, sen., and  Mr. Arthur Gordon  Yaxley, fifth son of the late Mr. Matthew Yaxley, of "Pleasant View," Forth, were united in the bonds of matrimony by the Rev. Stewart Byron, of Devonport. The bride, who was given away by her brother, Mr. James Hancock, looked very charming in an Empire gown of cream voile trimmed with silk net and guipure insertion. She was attended by her little niece, Miss Violet Hancock, who looked  very sweet in a cream serge Dorothy dress trimmed with lace and insertion and white droop hat made of silk straw trimmed with white bows and wreath of pink roses, and also wore a gold brooch, the  gift of the bridegroom. The bridegroom was attended by his brother, Mr. Garnet Yaxley.
After the ceremony, the guests (who included only the immediate relatives of the respective couples) sat down to a sumptuous repast, after which the usual toasts were proposed and re sponded to.  During the evening the happy couple left for their future home at Spreyton, amidst showers of confetti and good wishes. The bride's travelling dress was a navy coat and skirt, with which she wore a  beautifully embroidered and drawn-thread work white silk blouse: she wore a droop hat of pale pink chip straw swather with pink surah silk and rose- ettes. The presents were numerous and useful.

YAXLEY.—On August 3, at Spreyton, Arthur Gordon, beloved husband of Elinor, and father of Dorothy Yaxley, late A.I.F., 3rd Tunnelling Coy., aged 34.

Yaxley was a hospital case for long weary months before he was returned home to die a long lingering death, the result of that hellish atrocity, gas, first brought into use by German "kultur" and  eventually used against them by the Allies with great success. It was evident to us that poor Yaxley would never recover; for the fine strong willing workman was a physical wreck on his return, and his death may be looked upon as a happy release.
