Biography contributed by Faithe Jones

Son of Edward Francis and Elizabeth ORPIN, 231 Fort Road, St. James's Road, Bermondsey, London, England

Edward joined the stereotyping department of the Sydney Morning Herald in 1910.

On four occasions he volunteered for active service and was rejected.  He was then, on account of special training he had received, accepted for service in the Garrison Hosptial at Randwick.

Eventually after repeated efforts, he was posted to reinforcements for the Light Trench Mortar Batttery, but upon arrival in England, was transferred to the 3rd Battalion.

He fell in action on August 23, 1918.
