Percival joined the 16th Battalion and fought at Gallipoli where on 2 May 1915 he was wounded sustaining a compound fracture of the left upper arm. He was sent to hospital in Manchester, England and then returned to Australia on H.S.Runic on 7 November 1915 and was discharged at his own request due to being medically unfit on 7 July 1916. Percival received the Victory Medal, British War Medal and the 1914/15 Star between September 1920 and April 1922. He died on 21 September 1948.
