Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks
Riverine Grazier (Hay, NSW) 19 September 1916.
'Mr. Robert Foster, of South Hay, received a telegram from the military authorities on Saturday morning, stating that his son, Private Stanley G. Foster, had been killed in action in France, on the 17th August. Stanley was the third son, and was 21 years of age. He was attached to the 40th Battalion, having been transferred from the 3rd. For some time, he had been engaged as a sniper. A native of Hay, he enlisted in Goulburn, where he was employed at the time. When he first presented himself, he was rejected, but he tried again and was successful. General sympathy is expressed for the bereaved father, whose eldest son, Corporal Wm. J. Foster, was wounded a few weeks ago.'
His brother 2594 Lance Corporal William James Foster 4th Battalion AIF, returned to Australia 10 September 1917, fractured tibia and fibia right leg.
