Lance Corporal MacPherson served with the 16th Battalion, Australian Imperial Force; he formerly served in the 2nd Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders.

He emigrated to Australia in 1909.

He made his home in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales  and he enlisted there.

He was 34 when killed in action.

He is remembered [as a Private] on the Lairg War Memorial.
