When Alfred John Whimpress was born on 26 November 1888, in Kersbrook, South Australia, Australia, his father, John Whimpress, was 28 and his mother, Annie Eliza Stone, was 12. He married Ida May Tate on 27 September 1924, in Unley, South Australia, Australia. He died on 14 September 1963, in Daw Park, South Australia, Australia, at the age of 74, and was buried in Springbank, South Australia, Australia.

[Note the discrepancy in birthplace between this website and attestation papers signed by Whimpress when he enlisted.  Kersbrook and Gumeracha are nearby towns in the Adelaide Hills.]
