Biography

Enlisted on 30/11/1914 at age 21 Years and 2 months

Embarked on 02/02/1915 on transport A46 "Clan MacGillivray" for Tel-el-Kibir

Fought at Gallipoli with the 12th Battalion and was hospitalised in Malta on 19/10/1915

Rejoined unit in Tel-el-Kibir on 19/01/1916

Transferred to 52nd Battalion and promoted to Lance Corporal in France 18/08/1916

Field promoted to Corporal on 16/09/1916

Field promoted to Sergeant on 26/06/1917 due to death of Sergeant B. R. Dooley (KIA)

In the London Gazette dated 28/05/1917 notice appeared of the awarding of the Distinguished Conduct Medal to Claude Scott with the following notation: "His Majesty The King has been graciously pleased to approve of the award of the Distinguishe Conduct Medal to the undermentioned non-commissioned officer for acts of gallantry and devotion to duty in the field :-

No. 1565 Sergeant C. Scott.

"For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in assisting in a bombing attack on the enemy, who were forming up for a counter attack. He afterwards showed great courage in an attack upon a strong point, where he remained in an isolated position with a small party until his bombs were exhausted."

Transferred to 13th Training Battalion at Codford, England on 28/06/1917

Appointed Sergeant in Command at Lyndhurst Bombing School on 27/08/1917

Returned to France and rejoined 52nd Battalion on 29/11/1917

Transferred to 51st Battalion on 16/05/1918

On 07/07/1918 joined Number 6 Officer Cadet Battalion to qualify for commision in the infantry

Discharged from Officer Cadet Battalion on 22/08/1918 and appointed Second Lieutenant on 1/8/12/1918

Appointed Lieutenant on 18/03/1919

Returned to Australia on transport "City of Exeter" and subsequently discharged from th 51st Battalion

Following his return to Hobart he worked for many years at the Electrolytic Zinc Company (now Nystar) and was married to Violet Marie Scotney until his death at the age of 62 in 1955.
