From “The Forty-Third” The Story and Official History of the 43rd Battalion A.I.F.
Joined the 43rd Battalion on March 7th 1916.
Left with the original Battalion in June 1916 and landed in France in November that year. He was a famous scout and raider, and went night after night into No Man’s Land, bringing back valuable information. He took part as a volunteer in three successful raids at Frelinghein, Le Bizet, and the daylight raid before Messines attack in June 1917. During the Messines battle he acted as a runner for his Platoon Commander, and it was while on this duty that he was killed. He is buried on the battlefield. Of a bright, cheerful disposition, he was a great favourite and admired for his courage and splendid work on patrols in all kinds of weather.
He was killed on the 10th of June 1917 and his burial place is Sheet 28 U.4.c.8.2.
Note: the Honour Roll in the Official History of the 43rd Battalion (page 214) notes he was KIA on 11th of July 1917
