Son of Francis Henry Roberts and Ellen (nee Newman) Roberts of Union Street, Gawler, SA; brother of Charles Thomas Roberts who returned to Australia on board HT Norman on 31 July 1919 having served with the 1st Machine Gun Battalion,

5 September 1919 - Albert commenced to return to Australia on board HT Plassy
