"OBITUARY. Edward Howard
The death occurred at Leeton District Hospital, on October 25th. of Edward Howard, aged 67. He was employed as a sawyer at the Leeten Co-operative Cannery Ltd., and had been ill for the past five months. He is survived by his widow and the following children of a former marriage, Margaret (Leeton) and Herbert (Leeton). Surviving sisters and brothers are Patrick (Yenda), Jack (Victoria) and Julia (Mrs. Becket of Victoria). His parents were Mr. and Mrs. Edward Howard, of Port Fairy, Victoria, where he was born. His first marriage was at Wyalong to Margaret Hughes, and the second marriage was at Sydney to Agnes Hughes daughter of the late Patrick Hughes, of Narandera.
Before coming to Leeton the late Mr. Howard resided at Burgooney, and he had lived on the area for a period of four years. His chief activities were in connection with the R.S.S.A.I.L.A. He saw four years and 111 days service in the 1914-18 war and was gassed on three occasions. He served as a private with the 15th Battalion. He also served in the 16th Garrison Battalion in the late war, and received his discharge owing to illness. The funeral moved from the Catholic Church at 3 p.m. on October 26th, the Rev. Father Roache officiating. Pall bearers were Messrs T. H. Dunn, J. Sharpe, J. Harding and J. O'Grady. The chief mourners were the widow, a son and daughter, and Mr. Keith Wilkie, nephew." - from the Murrumbidgee Irrigator 30 Oct 1945 (nla.gov.au)
