Frank's history

Frank was born in 1895 in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England. He was the son of John Hudson Davies and Martha Parry. The family lived in Shropshire in the early years and in 1911 Frank was working as a cowman on his uncle James and aunt Ada's farm near Ellesmere. Frank's brother Denis died when he was 3 years old. Both John Hudson Davies and Martha Parry had come from quite wealthy families with farmland, but John was struggling financially (and had been in court as a debter and bankrupt in 1909 as a bookmaker in Shrewsbury). The family left for Freemantle, Australia sailing on the Otway on 25 May 1911. His family set up firstly a small shop in James Street Perth, then successfully ran the Railway Refreshment Rooms and Midland Hotel in Mogumber.

Frank worked as a barman at the Central Hotel until enlisting in the Australian Imperial Force on 8 September 1914

Frank served as Corporal in the 16th Battalion and was killed in action on 7 November 1915 on the Gallipoli Peninsula, Turkey
