Chronicle (Adelaide, SA: 1895 - 1954) Saturday 30 September 1916

THE LATE PRIVATE S. M. DUNBAR.

Much regret was felt when the news reached Petersburg that Private Sidney Murray Dunbar had been killed in action in France on August 4. He was 26 years of age, and enlisted on January 24, 1915. He embarked from Australia on May31 1915; spent three months in Gallipoli, and was there at the evacuation. He then went with his battalion guarding the Suez Canal, where he became ill, and was subsequently returned to the Cairo Hospital for three weeks. He sailed for France in April. Prior to enlisting he was employed in the South Australian railways as a fireman, both in the metropolitan area and northern division. Being of a cheerful disposition he was a general favorite among his many friends, by whom he will be sadly missed. The late Private Dunbar was married whilst in camp, and much sympathy is felt for his widow, his parents (Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Dunbar, of Gladstone), and his sisters and brother.
