Gave his age as 18 years but was in fact just over 15 years. Had  previously enlisted on 23 December 1916 and discharged on 29 December 1916 as under age. He then re-enlisted on 21 May 1917 and proceeded overseas. When discovered he was still underage he was returned to Australia.

He later served between 1921-1923 then again enlisting in 1936 before going permanent Army in 1941 eventually going overseas and finally dying of illnes in 1945 in Borneo as POW.

Commenced return to Australia on 24 August 1918 aboard SS City of Karachi disembarking on 24 October 1918
