The son of Herbert Edward and Hannah Tuckfield, 17 York Street, St. Kilda, Victoria, Herbert gave his place of association as Jindivick, Victoria.

He was killed in action counter attacking during the German attack at Lagnicourt.

His only brother 1119 Pte Frederick Norman Tuckfield, 7th Light Horse Regiment, returned to Australia, 28 January 1916. He was wounded in the forehead by shrapnel at Gallipoli, resulting in the loss of his left eye.
