19 Apr 1917: Honoured Military Cross, Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry. He led a bombing attack against the enemy who had counter attacked against the battalion on his right. Heavy casualties were inflicted on the enemy and the counter attack driven back, some prisoners they had taken being recovered. He was wounded.' His younger brother 341 Corporal Murdo McLaurin Dobbie 24th Battalion AIF was killed in action 22 February 1917. Age 22.

Both the sons of Henry and Elizabeth Jessie Dobbie, of 66, Cross St., Footscray, Victoria, Australia.
