Charles Peter Thomas Cleary was born 16th October 1890 in South Melbourne Australia. His mother Agnes (Cunningham) Cleary and father Peter Thomas Cleary raised him as a Roman Catholic. During his childhood the family moved to South Australia to 27 Margaret Street, North Adelaide. He was single when enlisted on the 27th of December 1915. He was 25 and 2 months with a standing height of 5'6 and a half. His papers describe him as having fair skin, blue eyes and brown hair. Before enlisting he was Railway Porter with the South Australian Railways. 

 He embarked on the "Seeang Bee" on the 12th of July 1916 from Adelaide arriving on the 24th of August in London and marched in to the Australian Army Medical Corps. On the 16th of October 1916 he was officially added to the roster unit for 1st A.D.H (1st Australian Dermatological Hospital) and was transferred to Bulford, England on the 22nd of October 1916. He was appointed Lance Corporal 1st A.D.H on the 1st of July 1917.

In September of 1917 he married MabelCWiller; shortly after he changed his next of kin to Mabel on the 19th of February 1918. On the 21st of May, Cleary was promoted to the position of Temporary corporal in Tidworth. As listed on a change of next of kin form Mabel's house was recorded as 41 Warleigh Road, Brighton, Suxcex England as per 1918 records. At Saint Saviors church Brighton, Cleary and his wife christened their first child, Maison Charles Cleary on the 19th of January 1919.

The family embarked on "Demontheses" on the 26th of July 1919, Disembarking from the ship on the 12th of September after their arrival at Port Adelaide. A medical report from the 12th of September shows that during his time on the ship he became sick with influenza, making a quick recovery a short time after.

Cleary and his wife went on to have a set of twins, Marjorie Cleary and Bernard Roy Cleary on the 16th of March 1920. On the 15th of April 1922 they welcomed the birth of their 4th child Jone Gertrude Cleary. Sometime after the birth of Jone Gerturde Cleary the family moved to live in England. His name was listed on electoral rolls around various addresses around Brighton, UK in the years 1926,1928 and 1936.

He died at Maidonhead, Berkshire on 18th of April 1960. His funeral was listed 3 days after on the 21st held in Berkshire England.
