Add my storyBiography contributed by Stephen Brooks
George Patrick Graves was an adopted child. He was taken into the care of the Tasmanian Department for Neglected Children on 27 February 1900, when he was 10 years of age. He was adopted by William and Elizabeth Bradford of Southport, Tasmania a few months later. It was stated by Mrs. Bradford (foster mother) that his birth mother had died and he was malnourished when she adopted him.
George was reported missing during the last attack by the Australians on Mouquet Farm. He was seen by several eye witnesses to have been killed by shell fire.
His foster mother, Elizabeth Lily Bradford received his medals and war gratuity. George's remains were discovered by the War Graves staff in 1920 and he was reinterred in the Courcelette British Cemetery.
