Biography contributed by Robert Wight

Charles Herbert Jones enlisted in the AIF at Blackboy Hill, WA on 5 July 1915, aged 34.

He embarked overseas on 5 October 1915 and arrived in Egypt about five weeks later, where he joined the 11th Battalion, after their return from Gallipoli, on 7 January 1916.

Still in Egypt, on 29 February 1916 he was transferred and taken on strength of the 51st Battalion.

He departed Egypt on 5 June 1916 and arrived in Marseilles, France on 12 June.

The battalion moved into the front line near Fleurbaix from 26 June 1916 and it was here that Pte Charles Herbert Jones was killed in action on 3 July 1916.

He was subsequently buried in the Rue-Du-Bois Military Cemetery at Fleurbaix.
