Rev. William Ashley-Brown
Rev. W. Ashley Brown, who has been a Chaplain with the A.I.F., for the past two years having seen service at Gallipoli, in Egypt, England, France, and Belgium, has 'received' a permanent appointment as Chaplain to the Indian Imperial Forces. Before retiring from the A.I.F. he was promoted to the rank of Chaplain-Major.

Some 20 years or more ago, when .Coralri. was part of the then extensive Woodburn parish, a young man was stationed here to assist the Rev. H. J. Velvin. That young man. to-day is Chaplain of Foona (India), has been so for some years, in fact, but very few of his old friends realise the importance of the post he occupies. By special request of the'Church Standard,' the former Curate at' Coraki tells the story of Poona and his work there in the current issue of that paper. Incidentally, Rev. Ashley Brown was the son of a former head teacher at Harwood P.S., and married a young lady who was nurse at the Campbell Hospital.

Last Sunday, Rev. W. Ashley Brown, late Archdeacon of Bombay, was the preacher at both services in Christ Church Cathedral, Grafton. As a curate 40 years ago, Archdeacon Brown was on the staff of St. Andrew's at Lismore, when his father was. headmaster of Rous public school.

Curate at Christ Church Cathedral, Grafton followed by a period as Vicar of Walgett. He was then Archdeacon of Bombay after which he was Dean of Gibraltar. Returning to Australia in 1945 he became Rural Dean of West Charing

William was born as Ashley William BROWN on 22nd February, 1887 in Queensland
His parents were James BROWN and Susan Sarah BRADFORD who married on 30th March, 1884 in Queensland
He married Ellen Martha CARTER - she died on 27th February, 1924 in India - 2 children from that marriage, Joan & Guy
His 2nd marriage was to Alice May PRESTON in 1926 in Aden (Yemen)
William died on 2nd September, 1970 in Gosford, NSW - late of Avoca Beach (Central Coast NSW) burial place unknown
Medals: 1914-15 Star -joined Indian Army after resigning his posting & discharge in England on 25th October, 1917

His son Guy James Alexander ASHLEY-BROWN served with the Royal Australian Navy from 1928 to 1961 and became an Acting Commander
