Births Dec 1880 BATES William James Hastings 2b 43.

He was 34 and the son of William James and Emma Bates; husband of Esther Bates, of 26, Somerset St., Grangetown, Cardiff, Wales.

He served with the The Fighting Fourth, 4th Battalion, 1st Brigade, 1st Australian Division, Australian Imperial Force. He was killed in action at Lone Pine at sometime between 6 and 9 August 1915
