He was 30 and a son  of Robert and Teresa Elizabeth Hovenden, of "Will-Fred," Cross St., South Strathfield, New South Wales, formerly of Sherwood Rd., Merrylands, New South Wales.

His brother, Private William Hovenden, aged 28, 25th Bn. Australian Infantry, A.I.F. fell at Gallipoli on 10th November 1915 and is believed to be buried in the EMBARKATION PIER CEMETERY-a Special Memorial there commemorates him.
