Peter was the aecond and twin son of Peter and Elizabeth Turner Hannay, of Willowbank, Tenterfield, New South Wales, Australia.

His home address at the time of his schooling at Dollar Academy  was Southville, Academy Street, Dollar. He left in 1902, returning to Australia to work in farming in Queensland.
