Lance Corporal Roland Henry Simpson was born at Burrawang, near Robertson, NSW in 1894. He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) on 9th September, 1915 as a 21 year old Labourer from Kin Kin, via Cooran, Queensland.
Private Simpson was hospitalised in Egypt in May 1916 with Influenza & again in France in October, 1916 also with Influenza.
He was wounded in action in France on 7th May, 1917 at Bullecourt with shrapnel wound to right leg. He recovered in France & rejoined thr 9th Battalion on 10th June, 1917.
Private Simpson was wounded in action (2nd occasion) on 1st November, 1917 in Belgium. He was invalided to England shrapnel wounds to right thigh (severe). He recovered & was posted to No. 3 Command Depot at Hurdcott, Wiltshire on 17th January, 1918.
He rejoined his Battalion on 9th March, 1918. He was promoted to Lance Corporal on 3rd May, 1918.
Lance Corporal SImpson was wounded in action (3rd occasion) on 18th July, 1918. He was invalided to England with shrapnel wounds to left leg. He was discharged from Hospital in England on 16th August, 1918.
Lance Corporal Roland Henry Simpson was sent sick to Military Hospital at Sutton Veny, Wiltshire on 29th October, 1918 with Pneumonia. He died at 07.30 hrs on 14th November, 1918 at the Military Hospital, Sutton Veny of Influenza Pneumonia.
