He is commemorated on the war memorial in the town of his birth, Bishops Stortford, Hertfordshire. The memorial is dedicated to the men who fell in both World War 1 and World War 2 and is in the form of a square obelisk and is located in the Town Park, Bishops Stortford, just off the A1250 where it crosses the River Stort.

William was born as William Joseph Peachey SCOTCHER on 12th October, 1890 in Bishops Stortford, Hertfordshire, England
His parents were Robert SCOTCHER & Clara Sarah PEACHEY who married in Cambridge, UK in 1872
He married Charlotte KANE in Sydney in 1913 and had one son, William Robert SCOTCHER born 1914
