Private William Andrew Lamb (Service No:6050) enlisted in the AIF on 22 March 1916 and embarked with 14th Infantry Battalion on 1 August 1916 from Melbourne for Plymouth on board HMAT A28 Militiades. Private Lamb served in France - where he was a Corporal from 24 May 1916 until 29 May 1917 when he relinquished and returned to Private. Transferred to 2nd Machine Gun Battalion on 2 November 1917, Private Lamb was WiA in Boulogne - Gas Shell - and hospitalised in England. He embarked from England for Melbourne on 4 June 1919 on board HT Mahia and was Discharged on 3 November 1919.
In WWII Private Lamb (Service No:V24405) enlisted in the ACMF (2nd Light Horse Regiment) on 8 March 1941.
Born in 1880 in Geelong Victoria, William was ninth of eleven children of David Lamb (b1836 in County Monaghan, Ireland) and Jane Rock (b1845 in Geelong, Victoria). David immigrated in 1854, arriving in Melbourne, Victoria on board the SS John and Lucy, and was a Farmer in 1863 when he and Jane married in Geelong, David and Jane settled in Burrumbeet where they raised their family and David was a Publican (Ocean Child Hotel) and Grazier.
William started work as a Machinist and was a Farmer in Highton in 1907 when he married Amy Stella Dolphin (b1879 in Chewton, Victoria). William and Amy lived in Highton and Barrabool where they raised their family and William was a Farmer and Labourer before retiring to Geelong. William died in 1953 and Amy in 1961.
