Son of Gustave George Zilles and Hannah Catherine Zilles nee Mitaxa of Talbot Street, Ballarat, Victoria.
Brother of Conrad Gerald Zilles who returned to Australia on 2 July 1919 having served with the 24th Machine Gun Battalion and Charles Henry Zilles who returned to Australia on 5 September 1919 having served with the 24th Battalion
Commenced return to Australia on 19 February 1919 aboard HT Orca disembarking on 7 April 1919
