Son of Mr. Justice Mayo and Clarice Mayo, of Adelaide; husband of Janet Mayo, of Burnside, South Australia.

Lieut. Eric Mayo, son of Mr. Herbert Mayo, K.C., and an old scholar of St. Peter's College, was top of his training course as a sub-lieutenant in  England. He married Miss Janet Simpson, of Burnside in 1939. He was a torpedo officer aboard the Sydney.

Lieutenant E. E. Mayo, 29, torpedo officer on HMAS Sydney, a son of Mr. Herbert Mayo, KC, and Mrs Mayo married Miss Janet Simpson in July, 1939. There is a son aged 16 months. Lieutenant Mayo was a student at St. Peter's College before entering the Royal Australian Navy in 1926. He  passed top of the Jervis Bay Naval College in 1929, and had sea service in Australian waters and the Mediterranean. In 1933 he passed top of the  Greenwich Naval College after which he again saw service in various waters. He took a special course in torpedo technique, and was stationed at  the Flinders base for some time. He was appointed to HMAS Sydney soon after his marriage.
