JOHN CECIL THOMSON was born on 4th March, 1894, at North Sydney, the son of Mr. John Thomson and Mrs. Matilda L. Thomson. He was educated at Fort Street Public School, Sydney, and joined the service of the Bank at Head Office on 5th September, 1912.
John Cecil Thomson enlisted in the 18th Battalion, A.I.F., on 6th March, 1915, and left Sydney on the “Ceramic” in June, 1915, with the rank of corporal. He served for a brief period on Gallipoli and, on 22nd August, 1915, was reported as “missing.” Nine months later a Court of Inquiry reported that John Cecil Thomson was supposed to have been killed in action on the date mentioned at Hill 60, Gallipoli.
