Great Sydney Central Station Honour Board
John FARNSWORTH (Service Number 562), was born in Derbyshire in 1880, and emigrated to NSW in about 1903. He joined the NSWGR in 1909 as a labourer in the Western Division of the Permanent Way Branch: his uncle was a Per-Way inspector at Parkes. In 1911 he became a fettler on the Nyngan to Bourke line. In 1913 he moved to the Molong to Forbes line, and in January 1914 to the Parkes to Condobolin line. In August 1914 he travelled to Sydney to enlist in the AIF at Kensington.
He was killed in action at Gallipoli on 1 May 1915. He was buried in ‘Wire Gully’, but after the war the grave could not be located, and he is remembered with honour on the Lone Pine Memorial.

John FARNSWORTH (Service Number 562) was born in Derbyshire, England, in 1880. He emigrated to NSW in about 1903. He joined the NSW Government Railways in 1909 as a labourer in the Western Division of the Permanent Way Branch. His uncle was a Per-Way inspector at Parkes. In 1911 he became a fettler on the Nyngan to Bourke line. In 1913 he moved to the Molong to Forbes line, and in January 1914, he was transferred to the Parkes to Condobolin line. In August 1914 he travelled to Sydney to enlist in the AIF at Kensington.
He embarked from Sydney in October 1914.
He was killed in action at Gallipoli on 1st May 1915. He was buried in ‘Wire Gully’, but after the war the grave could not be located, and he is remembered with honour on the Lone Pine Memorial.
