Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks

The son of Samuel Joseph and Charlotte Kate Randell, of Perth, Western Australia. His brother, 1620 Pte. Norman Randell 28th Battalion AIF returned to Australia in 1919.

Randell was reported missing during the last attack by the Australians at Mouquet Farm in September 1916. Despite the efforts of the Red Cross and others to discover his fate, little was known of the circumstances of his death.

During exhumation work by the Imperial War Graves Commission during 1930, his remains were found and identified by his identity disc and a watch. He was reinterred in the Serre Road No.2 Cemetery at Beamont Hamel in France. His father was most grateful in receiving his disc and watch which were returned to Australia in 1931, fifteen years after the death of his son.
