Bombardier William Gilmore Wilson (Service No:33173) enlisted in the AIF as a Gunner attached to 4th Field Artillery Brigade on 2 October 1916 and embarked with his Unit from Melbourne for Plymouth on 11 May 1917 on board HMAT A9 Shropshire. In 1917 Bombardier Wilson transferred to 11th Field Artillery Brigade and was WiA (Gas Poisoning) in Belgium in October that year. Evacuated to hospital in England, Bombardier Wilson embarked for Melbourne on 21 April 1918 on board HT Suevic and was attached to 11th Field Artlllery Brigade at Discharge on 9 November 1918. In WWII he served in the ACMF as a Private (Service No:V360534) attached to 15 Battalion VDC.

Born at Cape Bridgewater via Portland, Victoria in 1880, William was third of four children of Robert Wilson (b1845 in County Tyrone, Ireland) and Mary Jane Gilmore (b1846 in County Fermanagh, Ireland). Robert immigrated with his parents and siblings in 1855, arriving in Portland, Victoria on board the Cairngorm. Mary was a General Servant when she immigrated in 1871, arriving in Hobsons Bay on board the Star of India. Robert (a Farmer) and Mary married in 1874 in Portland, Victoria and settled at Cape Bridgewater where they raised their family and Robert was a Farmer.

William was working as a Farmer at Bridgewater via Portland in 1910 when he married Lillian Maude Lightbody (b1885 at Cape Bridgewater via Portland, Victoria). William and Lillian settled at Cape Bridgewater where they raised their family and William was a Farmer. In 1922 Lillian died, leaving five children under the age ten. William remarried in Melbourne that year to Amy Naomi Grant (b1896 in Coolgardie, WA) - Amy was a Tailoress in Melbourne. By 1924 William and Amy had settled at Sea Lake where William worked as a Carpenter. William died in 1957 and Amy in 1974.
