Biography contributed by Stephanie Damiani

Harry Jones was born in the small town of Gawler, South Australia, Australia in the year 1897. He grew up there and was raised by his mother, Louisa Jones. Once he reached a mature age he became a postman and delivered the mail around his neighbourhood.

World War One began when he reached the age of 18. He enlisted the following year when he had turned 19 and embarked on his journey in early 1916 to wherever the world required the help of the Australian Imperial Force in war.

He fought extremely bravely for the next 3 years and soon returned home in the year 1919. He lived happily in the town of Gawler for the remainder of his life.

A tragic day occurred in early May 1953 where Jones sadly passed away at the age of 56. He was buried at the AIF Cemetery in Adelaide to honour the outsanding services he provided and to pay tribute to his continual contributions to his country.
