Military Medal
'This man was out with the Signaller N.C.O., and from 3.50 a.m. until 8.30 a.m. on the morning of 24th April, 1918, during the heavy bombardment, he patrolled the telephone line running from the Battery position near MERICOURT l'ABBE to Brigade Headquarters. The shelling was very heavy along this line, and a large number of gas shell falling, and he had to carry on for a long time with his gas mask on. He persisted with this line until it became so badly cut and so many portions blown away that he could do no more with it. He then returned to the Battery, and proceeded with the work of maintaining lateral lines to other Batteries.'
